Introduction

Hey! Hey there! It looks like you made it to my introduction!

I started painting in 2014 after I took it upon myself to traverse the depths of my subconscious and unlock hidden truths locked away behind the veil of my psyche. Well okay, it did not exactly happen like that. What did occur was a standard art project. I was reaching the last week of my Humanities course at Whatcom Community College, and for our last assignment, we were tasked to complete an art project we had not done before. I decided to pursue oil painting since it was entirely new to me!

The first oil on canvas painting I created was a non representation piece titled Scruples and it is not my best work. I stood in front of the classroom to explain my piece, but the looks on the student faces was enough for me to gather they would not get it. Despite that, I was proud of my work.

I was not proud because I was under the illusion that I was a good artist. Rather, I had discovered a therapeutic process. Something about painting activated a part of me that I had not realized before. Since then, I have sporadically painted various pieces of artwork.

You will come to see that my artwork heavily relies on symbolism and esoteric imagery to convey a hidden message. But it is only up to the viewer on what that message entails!

The major themes I draw from are nature and religious imagery. Much of my artwork is the byproduct of the process known as automatic painting. In the world of art, automatism or automatic paintings is creating art without much conscious thought or pre-planning. The goal is to access the material from an unconscious state of mind as part of the creative process.

I consider my work a form of augmented automatism, because since my art is largely representational. However, many of my pieces are rarely thought out and are largely painted on a whim. Any pieces of art that were not done through the automatic painting process, I will label as such under the Art section.
